Abstract

aims of the Study: The purpose of this clinical study was toevaluate the effectiveness of mineral trioxide aggregate MTAas direct pulp capping material in permanent teeth withtraumatic exposure. Materials And Methods: twenty fourpermanent teeth for healthy patients ages between 15-40accepted direct pulp capping treatment after accidentaltraumatic exposure during cavity preparation done by graduatestudents, in Conservative Department , College of Dentistry,University of Mosul. The teeth were treated directly with MTAmaterial over the exposure site then based with Glass Ionomercement and restored with permanent restoration . clinical , andradiographic examinations were carried out after 1 week thenfollow up after 6,10,12,24 weeks. Results: six month clinical&radiographic follow up were carried out for all patients . Atrecall appointments, patients were evaluated for reparativedentin formation, pulpal calcification, continued normal rootdevelopment and evidence of pathosis. One patient did notreturn for recall appointments and evaluations after one week ,another one failed to return after six weeks interval . Theremaining had favorable outcomes on the basis of clinicalfinding , electrical pulp tester & radiographic appearance .Conclusion : within the limitation period of the presentstudy , MTA can be considered as a reliable pulp cappingmaterial for manangment direct pulp exposure in permanent teeth.
